Native Stone’s Lewis and Clark Hiking Trail
Opened
to the public on May 2nd, 2003!
Native Stone has prepared a free historical treat for you
and your family. Enjoy
a beautiful, one mile hike to Bull
Rock, a Lewis and Clark site located on the river side of
Native Stone.
The
two mile, round trip hike is any easy walk for all ages…
complete with signage chronicling the Corps of Discovery’s
trip through Missouri. It’s
the perfect outing for you to spend some quality time with your
children, while viewing some of the better things that nature
has to offer… watch for turtles and frogs, ducks, geese, blue
heron and purple martins as you pass our lake… if you are
really quiet, it’s not unusual to see wild turkey or deer in
the woods… coyote sign is common (watch your step, they like
to leave this in the middle of the trail!)… red tailed hawks
and turkey buzzards are daily sightings, but you’ll have to
come in the winter to see the eagles soar over the river, truly
a majestic sight… if you are a bird lover… bring your field
guide and tell us how many you find… we’ll keep track of the
record… same with trees, butterflies, bugs and anything else
on the trail you want to be posted as the “record holder
on”! The trail
can be hiked in one hour, but you are going to want to spend a
whole lot more time than that.
Like
everything else… there are rules to keep everyone safe and
happy.
First, please honor the trail hours: 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.
Arrangements for school groups can be made at other times
by calling (573) 584-8600.
We do ask that any large group please call in advance at
the same number.
Second, please check-in at the Winery. You will be given a map at that time and asked to agree to
our policies for usage of the trail, which include the
following:
All
children under the age of 18, must be accompanied by a parent or
guardian. Please
parents, do not let your children out of your sight.
You
must agree to take responsibility for yourself, your actions,
your children and their actions… if you don’t, we cannot
allow you access to the trail.
Any
behavior harmful to Native Stone and our guests will not be
tolerated. You must stay on the gravel trail…all the land surrounding
the trial is privately owned and no trespassing is allowed.
You cannot approach the lake or the river…climb
trees… leave the trail, or do anything else that gives our
insurance company heart failure.
Unfortunately,
no insurance means no trail, which is no fun!
Please help us out on this!
Report any unauthorized activity to us at the Winery.
We
reserve the right to ask anyone to leave for any reason… but
hopefully, this will never be necessary… we want you to have
fun… but we must insist that you be safe at the same time!
Third, the trail is a “hiking” trail, no vehicles of any kind
are allowed (sorry, no bikes).
Arrangements for handicapped access may be made in
advance by calling
(573) 584-8600.
This
is our home. We’re
inviting you to visit. Please
be our guest.
